VOCALIST/LYRICIST/ARRANGER

Phyllis Chapell is open to all kinds of collaboration in performances, in the recording studio and in songwriting.

She has performed with many ensembles throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region and in other regions as well.

One of her regular collaborations is with Barry Wahrhaftig and The Hot Club of Philadelphia. She performs and records with this very popular and dynamic gypsy jazz ensemble (www.hotclubphilly.com).

She performs as part of an organization called ARTolerance founded by Ohad (Udi) Bar-David (who also was the original founder of Intercultural Journeys), cellist with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

She performs with Skipper Kripitz, drummer/percussionist in Key West, Florida.

And the list goes on and on…

And she is available for hire as a vocalist, arranger and lyricist, including writing lyrics in other languages or translating from other languages. Below are a few examples of her work.

This is a song that was written by 2 Brazilians—Victor Ludolf and Bill Medeiros—with lyrics by Phyllis Chapell. This piece was arranged and produced by the late great Dan Kleiman. It’s called “Summer Magic”.

I Only Have Eyes for You is from the Great American Songbook. We did this video based on the recording from the CD “Naked World”.

And we had some great musicians on this recording: Kevin MacConnell on bass, Rodney Whittenberg on guitar, Jim Hamilton on percussion—and special guests Howard Levy on harmonica and Nick Lombardelli on trombone.

This is a 3-part video, telling the story of the late Dan Kleiman who wrote this piece plus the critical story of saving our world’s water, and finally— the music video of the song “AEIOU Water”.

I was asked to sing this beautiful Irving Berlin song for Mark Schultz’s recording “Shpilkes”
